100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games
As the UK summer stutters and splutters its way through June and now July, offering the odd glorious gem of a day amidst a host of dull, wet and windy weeks, the prospect of the second biennial 100% Pure New Zealand Winter Games being held on the South Isand in August doesn’t seem such a faraway concept.
In fact, it’s all rather exciting, especially for the ski junkies of the northern hemisphere, who’ve months to wait for the next significant snowfall in Europe. Well, clearly it’s time to head to New Zealand…
Taking place between 13 and 28 August 2011, the Games aim to showcase New Zealand as a true winter destination offering 16 days of world class sporting action at locations in Queenstown, Wanaka, Mt Hutt, Dunedin and Naseby – the curling capital of NZ! Topping the bill of competitors is Olympian, Aksel Lund Svindal, the Norwegian skier who took triple gold in Vancouver.
The packed programme includes alpine skiing, cross country skiing, winter triathlon, free skiing, snowboarding, ice hockey, figure skating and of course, curling.
Definitely 100% cool – and yes, I may have borrowed this!
